TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his intention to allocate funds for constructing a special prison for corruptors on a remote island, citing his frustration with their actions.
He delivered this statement during a speech at the launch of a new distribution system for regional civil servant teachers' allowances at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Jakarta on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Addressing the teachers in attendance, he emphasized that corrupt officials are making life difficult for teachers, doctors, nurses, and farmers.
"We will expel them from the land of Indonesia if necessary. I will also set aside funds to build a very sturdy prison in a remote location where they cannot get out. We will find an island so that if they escape, they will be attacked by sharks," said Prabowo.
Prabowo stated that the biggest challenge for Indonesia is a high level of corruption, as it causes budget leaks and preventing resources from reaching those who need them most.
"We are determined to try as hard as possible, with all our available resources, to achieve a clean government, free from corruption. With our vast resources and wealth, if possible, we will reduce leakage and corruption," said Prabowo.
Prabowo stated that education is the key to everything. However, the government needs money for education.
He also stated that corruption destroys the country.
With a strong tone, Prabowo stated that he will not back down in facing corruptors.
"They must understand that I am ready to die for this nation and country. I am not afraid of any mafia," he said.
Previously, President Prabowo said that the level of corruption in Indonesia is very worrying. Corruption is the root of regression in various sectors such as education and development.
Therefore, the head of state is committed to using his authority to combat corruption.
"The level of corruption in my country is very alarming. And that is why I am determined to use all the energy, all the authority given to me by the constitution to try to overcome this disease," said Prabowo in the international forum World Governments Summit 2025, conducted via a video conference monitored on the President's Secretariat's Youtube on Friday, February 14, 2025.
