A federal judge has certified a class action alleging that plane maker Boeing (BA) previously prioritized profit over safety and overstated its commitment to safe jets, Reuters reported Saturday.
The company's shareholders led by Rhode Island's state treasurer who owned Boeing stock between Jan. 7, 2021, and Jan. 8, 2024, can sue it as a group for damages, the news agency reported, citing US District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia.
Boeing shareholders wanted the class period to start in 2019, though Brinkema said it should commence when the company resolved a criminal case from the US Department of Justice tied to Max safety, according to the report.
Boeing did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
