CHICAGO, March 5 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for soybeans and corn were mostly steady in the U.S. Midwest on Wednesday as low futures prices discouraged farmers from selling and producers turned their attention to plans for spring planting.
* The soy basis ticked up at a Council Bluffs, Iowa, processor. Corn and soy basis bids were steady elsewhere, spot checks showed.
* Chicago corn, soybeans and wheat futures rose on Wednesday, recovering from multi-week lows, as indications that U.S. tariffs against Canada and Mexico may be reduced helped ease market jitters over escalating trade tensions.
* U.S. President Donald Trump slapped 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada on Tuesday and doubled duties on Chinese goods to 20%, drawing immediate retaliatory steps from Canada and China and a pledge from Mexico to also respond.
* Despite the recovery, prices are too low to encourage farmers' sales.
* Chicago Board of Trade May corn futures CK25 were up 4 cents to $4.55-1/2 per bushel at midday. CBOT May soybeans SK25 rose 9-3/4 cents to $10.08-3/4 a bushel.
