Macnica Anstek Inc. was the biggest gainer among large Taiwan companies during the session, surging 10%, and Transcend Information Inc. surged 9.9% Nanya Technology Corp. rounded out the top three movers, as shares surged 8.6%.

On the currency front, the onshore yuan strengthened 0.1% against the U.S. dollar to CNY7.24 while the New Taiwan dollar strengthened 0.3% against the U.S. dollar at NT$32.81.
