Toyota Motor (TM) and its Chinese partner, state-owned Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), have started accepting orders in China for their smart electric vehicle, Bozhi 3X, multiple media outlets reported Friday.
The base model is priced at 104,800 renminbi ($14,500), while versions with intelligent driving features that are equipped with an Orin X chip and Momenta's smart driving software start at 139,800 renminbi, according to GAC Toyota's website.
First unveiled at a Beijing auto show last year, the Bozhi 3X reportedly saw strong initial demand. Peng Baolin, vice president of sales at GAC Toyota, said Thursday on Weibo that the model received over 10,000 orders within an hour of its launch, media reports said.
When asked by Reuters, GAC Toyota declined to comment on export plans for the Bozhi 3X or the model's profitability, considering its low price.
