House Republicans have subpoenaed Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) as part of an investigation into alleged censorship under the Biden-Harris Administration. The House Judiciary Committee, led by Ohio Republican Jim Jordan, is demanding documents related to potential government influence on content moderation.
Jordan's letter to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai claims that YouTube was directly involved in the federal government's censorship regime. He also compared Alphabet to Meta (NASDAQ:META), which admitted past compliance with government requests and later revised its policies.
The committee is considering legislation that could limit the executive branch's ability to coordinate with tech companies on content moderation. Alphabet has until March 28 to comply with the subpoena.
Last week, the committee also subpoenaed Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Rumble (NASDAQ:RUM), TikTok (BDNCE), and Meta (NASDAQ:META) for records related to foreign government censorship policies.
