Google’s new AI search could change the way you use the internet

Google has unveiled its attempt to ward off the growing popularity of artificial intelligence research tools such as Perplexity and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search with a new AI mode that could stop users clicking through to websites entirely.

The company is expanding the AI overviews that sit at the top of search results to help with harder questions on topics such as coding and mathematics. More importantly, it unveiled an experimental version of Google that looks more like AI reasoning products already available from rivals.
