China EV Insurance Registrations For Week Ending Mar 2: Nio 3,100, Onvo 1,800, Tesla 12,400, Xiaomi 6,800, BYD 62,400

Major electric vehicle (EV) makers mostly saw an increase in insurance registrations last week, with deliveries usually higher as the month ends.

For the week of February 24 to March 2 -- week 9 of 2025 -- Nio (NYSE: NIO) branded vehicles saw insurance registrations of 3,100 units in China, up 24.00 percent from the previous week's 2,500 units, according to data shared today by Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI).

The numbers shared by Li Auto are by brand, and in Nio's case do not include insurance registrations for the sub-brand Onvo.

Onvo didn't make any of Li Auto's latest list, though according to figures shared by several auto bloggers, the brand was at 1,800 units last week, up 28.57 percent from the previous week's 1,400 units.

Nio Inc, which includes the Nio and Onvo brands, had 4,900 insurance registrations last week, up 25.64 percent from 3,900 the week before.

Nio Inc delivered 13,192 vehicles in February, up 62.22 percent from 8,132 in the same month last year, but down 4.84 percent from 13,863 in January, according to data released on March 1.

The Nio main brand delivered 9,143 vehicles in February, up 12.43 percent from 8,132 in the same month last year and up 14.99 percent from 7,951 in January.

The Onvo sub-brand delivered 4,049 vehicles in February, down 31.51 percent from 5,912 in January.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) had insurance registrations of 6,700 vehicles last week, down 23.86 percent from 8,800 the week before.

The company delivered 30,453 vehicles in February, up 570.03 percent from 4,545 in the same month last year and essentially flat from 30,350 in January.

Xpeng's strong deliveries at the beginning of the year were supported by two new sedan models, the Mona M03 and the P7+.

Deliveries of the Mona M03 continued to exceed 15,000 units in February, marking the third consecutive month of over 15,000 deliveries in a single month, while deliveries of the P7+ accumulated to over 30,000 units in its three months on the market.

Li Auto's insurance registrations last week stood at 7,300 units, down 5.19 percent from 7,700 the week before.

The company delivered 26,263 vehicles in February, up 29.69 percent from 20,251 a year ago but down 12.24 percent from 29,927 in January.

Li Auto announced last month that its first all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), named Li i8, will be launched in July.

The company's vice president Liu Jie said on February 28 that Li Auto will launch updated versions of its current models in May, focusing on upgrades to its smart driving hardware.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) had 12,400 insurance registrations in China last week, up 77.14 percent from 7,000 the week before.

The US EV maker's February delivery numbers in China are not yet available.

It sold 33,703 vehicles in China's domestic market in January, down 15.49 percent from 39,881 a year earlier and down 59.36 percent from 82,927 in December.

Tesla launched the facelifted five-seat Model Y in China on January 10 and was offering two variants it calls the "Launch Series" through February 28. Deliveries of the revamped Model Y in China began on February 26.

The company began selling the regular Model Y in China on March 1 at the same prices as the Launch Series.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) had 62,400 insurance registrations last week, up 5.58 percent from 59,100 the week before.

The company sold 322,846 NEVs in February, up 163.95 percent from 122,311 a year ago and up 7.42 percent from 300,538 in January.

BYD unveiled its vehicle intelligence strategy on February 10 to start bringing smart driving capabilities to low-priced affordable models.

It said in a Hong Kong Stock Exchange announcement earlier today that it would raise HK$43.5 billion ($5.6 billion) through the issuance of 129,800,000 new H shares to support R&D and overseas business development.

Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) had 6,800 insurance registrations last week, up 6.25 percent from 6,400 the week before.

Xiaomi EV said on March 1 that deliveries of its first model, the SU7, once again exceeded 20,000 units in February, marking the fifth consecutive month seeing monthly deliveries exceeding 20,000, giving cumulative deliveries of more than 180,000 units.

It officially launched the SU7 Ultra on February 27, an electric sedan with 1,548 Ps of maximum horsepower based on the regular SU7.

Deliveries of the SU7 Ultra began on March 2, with orders reaching 19,000 units.

The Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) brand had 3,600 insurance registrations last week, up 2.86 percent from 3,500 the week before.

Zeekr Group -- which includes the Zeekr brand and Lynk & Co -- delivered 31,277 vehicles in February, up 50.96 percent from 20,719 a year ago, but down 25.56 percent from 42,019 in January.

The Zeekr brand delivered 14,039 vehicles in February, up 86.94 percent from 7,510 a year ago and up 17.56 percent from 11,942 in January.

Lynk & Co delivered 17,238 vehicles in February, up 30.50 percent from 13,209 a year earlier, but down 42.69 percent from 30,077 in January.

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) had 5,900 insurance registrations last week, up 7.27 percent from 5,500 the week before.

It delivered 25,287 vehicles in February, up 285 percent from 6,566 a year earlier and essentially flat from 25,170 in January.

Yesterday, Leapmotor announced that it has formed a partnership with FAW Group to work together on passenger NEV co-development and parts collaboration, and to explore the feasibility of deepening a capital partnership.

Leapmotor will open pre-sales of the B10 SUV on March 10, the company announced on February 10 on Weibo.

Aito -- a brand jointly created by Huawei and Seres Group -- had 3,800 insurance registrations last week, down 2.56 percent from 3,900 the week before.
