Bitcoin’s bear market is a fresh test for institutional investors

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

When Donald Trump swept to power in November, cryptocurrency markets surged as investors bet the president-elect would make good on his promise to make the United States the undisputed king of the crypto world. The sector would be deregulated, the US would purchase a strategic reserve of bitcoin, and the financial regulators who had so harshly treated the sector would be turfed from office.
