Aluminum Can Makers Can Handle Higher Costs, Consumers Might Not -- Market Talk

1857 ET [Dow Jones]--Given the real-time pass-throughs that aluminum can makers Crown and Ball have in their contracts, higher costs stemming from a 25% tariff on all aluminum and steel imports should be relatively manageable, Jefferies analysts say in a research note. However, the tariff, set to go into effect next month, will increase the cost of beverage, food and steel aerosol cans for shoppers, and "there's modest risk it could weigh on demand given consumers are stretched already."
