Italy - Factors to watch on Feb. 14

ECONOMY

Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Thursday he expected upcoming data on public finances to be better than officially forecast, despite a darkening economic outlook.

Speaking in parliament, Giorgetti added the way the United States are acting under President Donald Trump was a matter of concern.

Giorgetti also said the government was planning measures to tackle rising energy prices.

Bank of Italy releases December data on public finances, state borrowing and debt.

DEBT

Treasury announces minimum guaranteed rates of eight-year 'BTP Piu' bonds dedicated to retail investors. The bond will be offered between Feb. 17 and 21.

Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Thursday that the Italian major had a plan to expand drilling in the next two years in the giant Zohr gas field.

INTESA SANPAOLO ISP.MI

Italy's largest banking group and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said they will not finance a $10 billion LNG project in Papua New Guinea, as environmental groups lobby against the project being developed by France's TotalEnergies TTEF.PA, Australia's Santos XOM.N.

TELECOM ITALIA TLIT.MI

Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Thursday that Italy's Treasury will own 70% of Sparkle once Telecom Italia completes the sale of its subsea unit, in a deal also involving Spain's Asterion fund.

The head of the former Italian phone monopoly, Pietro Labriola, said on Thursday both Poste Italiane PST.MI and French telecoms group Iliad are valid M&A options for TIM to consolidate the Italian telecoms market.

The Tuscan bank said on Thursday it had submitted the offer document on its takeover bid for Mediobanca to Italy's market watchdog Consob and to the government, to get state approval under so-called 'golden power rules'.

The Italian financial group reported on Friday a 5.2% year-on-year increase in net profit for 2024, exceeding the cumulative targets set in its 2022-2024 strategic plan.

The company CEO said on Thursday he does not expect any impact on business from possible U.S. tariffs.

Operating profit at Italian outerwear maker rose to 916 million euros ($955.11 million) last year, the company said on Thursday, beating a company-provided analysts consensus for an increase to 878 million euros.

Group Chief Corporate and Supply Officer Luciano Santel said Moncler does not have an M&A strategy and , speaking in a post-results conference call.

BANCA POPOLARE DI SONDRIO BPSI.MI

S&P Global Ratings said on Thursday it raised the bank's outlook to 'positive' from 'stable'.

Releases Q4 results.
