Feb 13 - (The Insurer) - Everest Group has made another senior addition to its Latin American treaty reinsurance team in Miami after Alejandro Montoya joined the platform from MS Reinsurance earlier this week, with his arrival coming shortly after the company brought in Gustavo Díaz from Scor.
Montoya has joined Everest’s Miami-based treaty team following an 18-month stint at MS Reinsurance where he served as a reinsurance underwriter.
Prior to joining MS Reinsurance in October 2023, Montoya spent over a decade at Willis Re and, after that reinsurance broking business was bought by Arthur J Gallagher, at Gallagher Re.
At Willis Re/Gallagher Re, Montoya served as a treaty broker supporting insurance companies, MGAs and captives with their reinsurance placements.
Having joined Everest, this publication understands Montoya will serve as a reinsurance underwriter with additional responsibility for overseeing Colombia and Central America.
Montoya is the second senior addition to Everest’s Latin America-focused treaty reinsurance team in recent weeks following the arrival of Díaz from Scor.
Díaz has over 20 years of experience in the Latin American market, and most recently served Scor as vice president and market manager, according to his LinkedIn profile.
At Everest, Díaz has been appointed a senior vice president with oversight for the Southern Cone region, while he is also responsible for business development across Latin America, sources told The Insurer.
During his time at Scor, Díaz also served as regional casualty manager for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Prior to joining Scor in 2016, Díaz spent two years at JLT Re’s operation in Argentina, while his career also includes time at Latin American Re, Boston Compañía Argentina de Seguros and Gen Re.
The arrivals of Díaz and now Montoya are the latest in a host of moves made by Everest in recent years as it further strengthens its footprint in Latin America and the Caribbean under Rui Marliere’s leadership.
Marliere assumed the role of senior vice president and head of Latin America and the Caribbean for Everest in early 2022.
In the time since, this publication understands that Everest’s Latin American and Caribbean treaty team has doubled in size, with its headcount now standing at around 70 people, making it one of the largest in the region.
