Chinese Economic Recovery Remains Uneven; Pressure on Prices Weigh -- Market Talk

0858 GMT - China's economic recovery has remained uneven, with persistent downward pressure on prices weighing on the outlook, says UOB economist Ho Woei Chen in a research note. China's travel and consumption demand over the Lunar New Year holiday has been improving since it lifted its Covid restrictions in late 2022, the economist notes. However, despite the encouraging data, PMI readings have indicated a smaller pace of services expansion in January, she notes. As the recently announced U.S. tariffs on China fell within expectations, UOB maintains its forecast for China's 2025 GDP growth at 4.3%. UOB is also closely monitoring developments on the tariff measures and the extent of China's fiscal policy boost. (tracy.qu@wsj.com)
