Fearing Trade Row, Kraft Heinz Assures Canada It's Ketchup Is 100% Canadian -- Market Talk

1440 ET - Kraft Heinz wants Canadian shoppers to know that, despite what Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggests, the Heinz Ketchup on the country's store shelves is made with 100% Canadian tomatoes. The outgoing PM says that, in event of a trade row with the US, Canadians might want to substitute US-made goods with Canadian-made substitutes--citing this week the example, during the first Trump administration, when Canadians were encouraged to buy French's ketchup, produced by McCormick, because the ingredients were Canadian. Kraft Heinz says the company has produced ketchup in Canada throughout its history, with the exception of the period between 2015 and 2020. The company adds it is one of the largest buyers of Canadian-grown tomatoes. (Paul.Vieira@wsj.com, @paulvieira)
