The New York Times (NYT) has been discussing potential bundled subscription partnerships with smaller publishers to expand its subscriber base in the US, Axios reported on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The partnerships would involve offering access to its lifestyle subscription products, such as games, cooking, and sports.

The Times previously partnered with international news outlets to bolster its subscriber base abroad and is now exploring similar deals with US-based publishers, Axios said.

One recent example involved The Ankler, a digital news startup covering the entertainment industry in Hollywood, although those discussions appear to have concluded without a deal, two sources told Axios.

Neither The Times nor The Ankler immediately responded to a request from MT Newswires on Tuesday seeking comment. The newspaper's shares recently were trading more than 2% higher.
