Ahead of the much-awaited consumer price index report due on Wednesday, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics is scheduled to release Producer Price Index $(PPI)$ data for December. Rise in producer prices likely eased to 0.3% last month, following a 0.4% rise in November. Annually, producer prices probably increased 3.4% in December. Excluding food and energy, PPI is expected to have risen 0.3% in December, after increasing 0.2% in the previous month.
Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City President Jeffrey Schmid is expected to speak on the economic and monetary policy outlook before the Central Exchange in Kansas City. OpenAI and its largest financial backer Microsoft are likely to ask a federal judge in Manhattan to dismiss parts of copyright lawsuits brought by the New York Times and other news outlets over the use of their articles in AI training. The companies will ask to dismiss secondary allegations that ChatGPT's outputs infringe the outlets' copyrights and that they unlawfully removed copyright management information from the articles. The companies' motions do not address the key question of whether AI training is fair use, which comes up at a later stage of the case.
Argentina's statistics agency, INDEC, is slated to report December inflation figures. Consumer prices are estimated to have hit 2.7% last month, after rising 2.4% in November. In the 12 months through December, consumer prices probably increased 117.8%.
