FirstEnergy said its top executive, Brian Tierney, has been unanimously elected to the additional role of chair of the board, effective Jan. 1.
Tierney will succeed John Somerhalder II, who will remain a director, the Akron, Ohio, utility company said Wednesday.
Tierney has served as chief executive of the company since June 2023. Prior, he held leadership positions at Blackstone Infrastructure Partners and American Electric Power.
"The board is confident that combining the CEO and Chair roles will best position the company as it delivers more secure and reliable energy through the execution of its Energize365 capital investment program," Lead Independent Director Lisa Winston Hicks said.
