Victoria’s Treasurer Tim Pallas says his one major regret after a decade in the role and nearly 20 years in parliament is that Labor’s ambitions were bigger than its purse strings. But he has no qualms with the controversial Suburban Rail Loop.
Mr Pallas, 64, called a snap press conference on Monday to announce he would finish up by the end of the week. Pressure has been growing on him and Premier Jacinta Allan over Labor’s management of the economy, which escalated when independent economist Saul Eslake published a detailed critique in The Australian Financial Review last month.
