The Western Australian Environment Minister determined that the Environmental Protection Authority's (EPA) assessment and conclusion to implement South32's (ASX:S32) Worsley Alumina project, subject to conditions, is "reasonable," according to a Friday filing with the Australian bourse.
The Minister also agreed with the company's appeal committee recommendations to amend specific conditions in the EPA report for the project after Worsley Alumina raised concerns that several proposed conditions would pose significant operational challenges and exceed reasonable measures for managing environmental risks, the filing said.
The company said the Minister's determination is a "positive" outcome for the project, with state approval expected later this month and federal approval expected in early 2025.
South32's shares fell past 1% in recent Friday trade.
