The chief executive of BorgWarner plans to retire early next year and be succeeded by the company's chief operating officer.

The Auburn Hills, Mich., auto-parts supplier said Thursday that Frédéric Lissalde intends to retire on Feb. 6 from his roles as president and CEO. He will also step down from the board and serve as an adviser to the company until Aug. 30.

Chief Operating Officer Joseph Fadool has been tapped to replace Lissalde as CEO, president and board member.

Fadool previously served as president of four BorgWarner business units and has 14 years of experience on the company's leadership team.
