Airbus is scheduled to report results for the third quarter on Wednesday. Here is what you need to know:
REVENUE FORECAST: The European plane maker is expected to post revenue of 15.30 billion euros ($16.52 billion), according to a market consensus provided by the company based on estimates from 20 analysts. The forecast is above revenue of 14.90 billion euros that Airbus reported for last year's third quarter.
EARNINGS FORECASTS: Net profit should come in at 918 million euros, according to the consensus, above the 806 million-euro figure from the prior year. Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes--Airbus's preferred measure of profitability--are expected at 1.20 billion euros compared with 1.01 billion euros a year earlier.
Airbus shares are largely flat since the year began, but the stock is up 12% over the last 12 months.
WHAT TO WATCH:
--Airbus delivered 497 planes by the end of September, meaning it still needs to dispatch about 273 aircraft in the last three months of the year to hit its annual target of roughly 770 deliveries. UBS analyst Ian Douglas-Pennant said in a research note that he isn't expecting a guidance downgrade, citing recent commentary from Airbus management and engine makers. Morgan Stanley analysts aren't expecting a downgrade either, but say in a note to clients that Airbus faces hurdles to hit its target since the group will need to expedite deliveries in the fourth quarter.
--The company cut its original target of around 800 deliveries in June, citing challenges in procuring engines, aerostructures and cabin equipment. Supply-chain snags have hit much of the aviation industry in recent years. Manufacturers have struggled to procure some raw materials and spare parts they need to make aircraft, slowing production and, consequently, deliveries. Investors will be monitoring potential remarks from Airbus management on how supply chains are faring in the final quarter.
