Exchange-Traded Funds Higher, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.1% lower.

US equity indexes traded mixed after midday as government bond yields edged up ahead of a speech from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell Monday afternoon.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose about 0.2% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were softer.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 1.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) lost 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) eased 0.1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) added 0.4%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 0.3%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was 0.1% lower. Natural gas lost 0.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) edged down 0.8%.

Gold lost 0.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.5%. Silver was 1% lower, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 1.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) shed 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.4%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.1%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were mixed, with the latter trading higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.2%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) edged up. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were mixed, with the latter trading lower.
