Binance founder Changpeng Zhao was released from federal prison Friday after serving four months for failing to implement an adequate money laundering program at the cryptocurrency exchange, according to media reports.
Zhao pleaded guilty to the charges in November and agreed to pay a $50 million fine. He stepped down as chief executive of Binance and is barred from having an executive role in the company.
Binance paid $4.3 billion in penalties to settle allegations tied to anti-money laundering and sanctions laws.
