Vertiv Holdings LLC, a provider of cooling and energy management solutions for data centers, saw its stock surge 5% in the pre-market trading session on Tuesday.
The rally came amid concerns about the potential impact of a disruptive announcement from Chinese AI lab DeepSeek on the company's growth prospects. DeepSeek claimed to have trained successful AI models much more efficiently than its competitors, roiling markets and leading to a sell-off in energy stocks that had benefited from the rapid development of AI and associated demand for data center infrastructure.
While Vertiv initially saw gains on Monday as part of the broader AI-driven rally, the stock later tumbled along with other energy companies like Constellation Energy and Vistra Energy. Investors reassessed the potential impact of DeepSeek's AI training breakthrough on the energy sector's growth, with Vertiv losing around a fifth of its market value amid concerns about reduced demand for its data center solutions.
